The Natural Resources Sectoral Committee is one of the nine CIMC Committees which is focused on addressing policy and development issues that are thematic to the development of natural resources, especially forestry, fisheries, lands, the general environment and climate change with an aim to promote responsible and sustainable development. The Committee was set up in 2017 and is governed by a Terms of Reference (ToR) which requires inter alia; quarterly meetings to be held in a year. The Committee is a platform through which all sectors can work together to ensure economic development is not only productive but sustainable, catering for local communities, enhancing livelihoods of Papua New Guineans and protecting the environment.
The Committee's Vision is:
To provide a platform for inclusive dialogue and mutual collaboration to address poliicy and development issues within the Natural Resources Sector and ensure that natural resource development in PNG is economically viable, socially equitable and environmentally bearable for the long term benefit of our people.
The committee's mission is:
To proactively advocate for sustainable and meaningful use of our abundant natural resources in a manner that safeguards the livelihood of citizens now and into the future and enhances our natural environment.
